Nissan Micra Overview
Compact hatchback segment is surely the most popular, crowded and also the competitive segment in Indian automobile market. Indians love small cars. We want maximum out of the compact small boxes called hatchbacks. In the growing competitive segment, Nissan Micra tried to bring some fresh air around half a decade ago. Now with so many competitors and fresh designs around it, the Nissan Micra is all due for a major change.
Recently a heavily camouflaged Nissan Micra test mule was spotted. The new Nissan Micra sports a radically aggressive design. When Nissan showcased the Sway concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, it gave us a preview of the next generation Nissan Micra. The test mule we have seen in the spyshots look exactly like the Sway concept. Now the next generation Nissan Micra test mule has been spotted, expect the car to reach the market next year. Meanwhile we have a rendered image by our designer which gives the speculative idea of the upcoming hatch.Book a test Drive for Mira in Hyderabad at Tryaldrive.
Now that the car is finally unveiled infront of the public we are pretty sure that it will definitely turn some heads. This new hatchback is wider, and longer than its predecessor which definitely has resulted in more interior space as well. The hatchback also gets a completely new drivetrain and also an agile chassis.
Nissan Micra Design & Look
Nissan is claiming that the next generation Micra is revolutionary. The hatchback stays true to the Sway concept..Towards the front the hatchback gets signature design cues with distinctive V motion grille. There is a sharp character line which starts from the grille and ends towards the rear profile of the hatchback. Towards the rear profile the hatchback features boomerang shaped taillamps. The blacked out B pillar does add a floating roof effect to the Micra.
Some other highlights of the hatchback includes door handles hidden in the C-Pillar. While the extended roofline also acts as the rear spoiler giving it a sporty appeal. The extended rear spoiler does promise to add the hatchbacks performance and aloso aesthetics. The new Micra is also made available with 10 color options as well.hile the India spec Nissan Micra would be built on the same V platform. The European Micra on the other hand will be built on Nissan-Renault CMF-B platform.
Nissan Micra Cabin & Space
Nissan exports the Micra in large quantities and thus the quality of interiors, fit and finish is at par with international standards. There was no unusual sound or rattle from any part of the car, in spite of having tested its suspension on really bad roads. The features on offer are pretty useful and get you addicted. For starters, the smart key. It rarely got out of our pockets and by the end of it, we were surely spoilt. Also, the addition of Bluetooth connectivity has been a big boon with phone connectivity on the go not being a luxury anymore. The auto up driver’s side window makes itself useful while you pay the toll or pick up a large packet of fries from the drive through window at McDonald’s. The AC cools quite well but the temperature moves up by a full degree rather than half degree as seen with most competition cars. The Micra is the only car to come with a dual glovebox and it is quite handy.
While most of the features are pretty handy, there are some which could have made it to the list. For one, rear parking sensors would have been a boon and there is no auto lock feature as well. The auto lock feature locks the doors once you pick up speed (usually 20 km/hr). After inquiring from the service center, we were told that this feature is already there but needs to be activated. If it’s already there, why should you have to activate it? It should have been done before the car was delivered. The boot was quite handy on weekend getaways, comfortably fitting in luggage for four people. Surprisingly, just to show how well this car has been thought off, we even managed to fit in a full size wooden rocking chair without a tussle.
Nissan Micra Engine & Gearbox
Nissan has kept the engine efficiency in mind and equipped the new Micra with a newly devloped 9.0 Litre, turbocharged, three cylinder petrol unit which is capable of poducing about 90 Hp of peak power. The diesel variant on the other hand gets the 1.5 Litre unit which too is capable of producing about 90 Ps of peak power. While later Nissan also has plans to introduce a 1.0 Litre petrol unit as well which will produce about 73 bhp of peak power. The engines will be paired to manual transmission but there will also be option of CVT transmission as well. Check for Nissan Micra in ibin.co.in

On the diesel front the Micra comes with a 1.5 litre SOHC unit under the hood paired with 5 speed manual transmission and produces 64 PS peak power. The new Nissan Micra is also offered with Active Ride Control which provides an enhanced ride comfort. and also an active trace control for reduced understeer as well.Powered by the 1.2-litre petrol engine, the Nissan Micra mileage is rated at 19.34 km/l as per the tests done by the ARAI. The more frugal diesel-powered Micra, on the other hand, is claimed to return an impressive fuel economy of 23.08 km/l, which is around 4 km/l more than the petrol version.
Nissan Micra Driving Dynamics
On the performance front, the Nissan Micra 2018 specifications notice no change as it continues to feature the same petrol and diesel engines as the preceding model. Similarly, there is no change in the transmission options and hence there is no change in its handling as well. The Micra does superbly well in the city but is it the same on the highway? While you will appreciate its high speed stability at triple digit speeds, the steering becomes quite vague as speed builds up and the feel is quite numb. Therefore high speed change of direction should be taken with caution. However, on the ride front, the Micra impresses at both slow and high speeds. Clearly the suspension has been set up for comfort and the car feels absolutely pliant on most road surfaces. Brakes are good and bite well but the brake pedal play had increased a bit by the time we were done with our test.
