Volkswagen Polo Overview
There is no doubt that the Polo is a popular name throughout the world when it comes to compact or supermini cars since the year 1975 until now VW was able to sell 14 million worldwide which itself speaks about its popularity.Today, Volkswagen unveiled the new generation Polo in Berlin. The German Auto giant recently shared two teaser images of the new hatchback online which gives us a glimpse of its exterior styling and now that the car is out infront of the public we must tell you that the new generation Car takes the game to a whole new level. Such tremendous amount of technology and details were not expected from VW.
The reports online also stated that the new Polo is bigger than its predecessor and features a new evolutionary design but like you all knew Volkswagen will never interfere with the Polo’s overall DNA and thus kept the hatchbacks distinct identity intact. The hatchback is all set to enter production this month only; this is the sixth generation Polo which underpins Volkswagens new MQB AO platform. You can also expect the hatchback also to get new petrol and diesel engines under its hood. The lightweight platform will automatically translate into much more responsive handling. Volkswagen Polo Exterior & Style
Exterior looks have not changed much, and the family identity is still very much there. At the front, the three-strip chrome grille has been replaced in favour of a single-slat chrome grille. The company has toned down the usage of chrome in and around the front grille, which makes it look bold and rugged. The hatchback boasts an all-new front bumper, which compliments well the aforementioned thick striped grille around the air dam. The headlamp cluster along with the twin fog lamps looks good, although disappointingly daytime-running lights (DRL) has been left out this time.
The Polo also benefits from an all new set of alloys and body-coloured door handles. The design of the tail-lamp cluster has also been tweaked slightly. Every change done to the exteriors, as mentioned before, are very slight and will only be noticeable to the practiced eye. Else, they are minor – an oh, of course – a new colour Copper Orange is added to the prevailing shades of Candy White, Night Blue, Flash Red, Carbon Steel, and Reflex Silver.
The interiors are neither too cramped nor too spacious, but if you’re looking to be chauffeur driven, the cabin may disappoint. The front row space is par for the course, but the space at the rear is inadequate and can’t hold a stone to the likes of the Honda Jazz or Maruti Baleno. The dual tone colour scheme is classy and it definitely has our approval. The centre console comes with a silver finish that looks great too.
A pair of AC vents are present at the top of the console which itself is slightly angled towards the driver. The Polo also gets the addition of touchscreen infotainment system with mirrorlink connectivity, which allows you to integrate your smartphone into the system, so that the screen of the phone is shown in the head-unit’s display. At the bottom is a climatronic air conditioning system that comes along with a thin display. A large storage space opens out below the console, where you could probably keep your phone and other spare items.
The flat-bottomed steering wheel is draped in leather and the chrome accents add an opulent touch to it. The steering is good to grip and gets mounted controls as well. The instrument cluster has a layout that’s easy on the eyes. Not as comprehensive as the Baleno’s, but not as complicated either. The cluster houses a speedometer, tachometer and an MID that displays the instant and average fuel consumption. You also get a distance-to-empty readout along with a service reminder..Check for Volkswagen Polo in bpas
The Polo comes with an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror with more convenience features like a 12V charging socket and a sunglass holder in the glovebox that is cooled as well. The fabric upholstery is of a decent quality. For storage, you get pockets in the doors, a glovebox and sprucing up the cabin are features like ambient lights, cruise control and USB/AUX/SD-card inputs.
Volkswagen Polo Engine & Performance
The new generation Polo hatchback will get both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variant will likely get the 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder unit which will produce around 95-100 ps of peak power; then there is the 1.5-litre TSI Evo four-cylinder unit which is capable of producing around 150 ps of peak power. The diesel variant, on the other hand, will get the 1.6 Litre TDI four cylinder unit which is expected to produce around 85 Ps of peak power while this particular unit will also be available in different states of tune as well providing more power. There will be s smaller 1.0 Litre MPI three-cylinder unit as well which will be set for developing market to keep the pricing down.
Reports are that Volkswagen will also introduce a powerful GTI variant as well which will get the 2.0 Litre TSI Turbocharged petrol unit as well which is expected to produce around 200 Ps of peak power. There is still time before VW launches the new generation Polo when they do expect hatch to continue with the same 1.2-litre TSI petrol and 1.5-litre TDI diesel available in the different state of tune though. Volkswagen Polo Ride & Handling
The Polo is quite a bit of a drivers’ car, if such a term can be used here, The new leather strapped 3-spoke speed sensing electronic power steering makes handling effortless. The tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel is fairly light and responds instantly to the driver’s directional inputs. The sporty flat-bottom steering wheel design enables an individual to maneuver the hatchback quite comfortably through narrow roads and thick traffic. Coming on to the performance, the Polo is fairly competent. The diesel variants of Polo are capable of accomplishing the 100-kmph milestone from standstill in a shade over 13 seconds while clocking a respectable 165-kmph top speed. The petrol is a fair bit slower to 100-kmph, while the top whack is around 150kmph. The front suspension comprises of McPherson struts with a stabilizer bar and the rear has a semi-independent trailing arm.
Volkswagen Polo Braking & Safety
European car manufacturers never skimp on safety, and this is more than evident in the Polo, which now comes with dual front airbags as standard. The braking system comprising of ventilated discs up front and drum in rear wark fairly effectively, and the Comfortline and Highline versions also get an Antilock Braking System (ABS). Additionally, there are 3-point front seat belts, 3-point rear outer seat belts, lap belt in the middle, speed-sensing auto door locks, fog lamps and many more features to ensure maximum safety of the occupants.
