The new Maruti WagonR primarily challenges the likes of the 2018 Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago in the segment.Check for Maruti Suzuki Wagon R price in Chennai.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Look

From many spy pictures, we can say that the design language is going to be a bit different with LED and DRL’s making their way to the car. The bonnet is flatter and bigger too. There will be more space on the inside with more focus on luggage.

The side profile looks different too. There are several aspects that make it stand out. This also looks different, especially the rear window. The rear of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 2019 looks different and it might be changed for the Indian market. The positioning of the tail lamps will be changed. The current design is trendy, it will be made more subtle and serious. The one in Japan has LED headlamps, daytime running LEDs and other features. We doubt some of these features will come to India also.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Comfort

The doors of the new WagonR open wide and ingress is like walking into the cabin. The interiors are adorned in beige and black theme and gives roomy feeling despite the fact that majority of the parts such as A-pillars have been blackened. Pointless to mention that there isn’t any lack of headroom for a 5.8inch tall person and we guess even a 6 footer will have no qualms. But when a short driver hops on the driver seat he would grumble about the missing height adjustable feature and just like before, the front passengers have to sit from the windscreen. So, for people want to have a view of the bonnet, should keep a cushion handy. However, it is easy to get into the perfect driving position as the car now gets tilt-adjustable steering wheel which is the same working in Ignis, giving an upmarket feel.

Another area of improvement is the quality of plastics but it lacks consistency. For example, the plastic on the centre console below the handbrake wasn’t fragile in the earlier version. The new WagonR also gets revamped instrument panel featuring orange backlight. And what’s cool is that the fuel efficiency can also be displayed on the infotainment system and might prompt the driver to change his driving habits which is a good move as far as environment is concerned.

Coming to the most prominent addition in this model, the SmartPlay Studio which the company calls it is completely new and features both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are tons of apps this infotainment support and which you can download on your phone. These include offline maps such as Navimaps and Aha radio to tune into favorite radio channels. The touchscreen infotainment is justly responsive while the SmartPlay Studio app on your smartphone also gives you the power of turning your smartphone into a remote control. The infotainment which is placed in the center of the dashboard slightly protrudes out.

Adjacent to the infotainment there are AC vents vertically stacked with one angled towards the driver, the other one towards the co-passenger. And both of the vents cannot be shut completely and the sad part of the ergonomics is that the vent which is placed on the driver’s side blows cold air either on the steering or the roof. Talking about the utilities in the car, Maruti has provided 1 bottle holder at each door with addition room for stashing knick knacks. Further, there is storage space right under the passenger seat, a cup holder ahead of handbrake lever in the console located between the front seats. People who know about the pop-out type cup holder which was there on the right hand side of the dashboard, is no longer there in the new model, sparing enough space to store stuffs. Moreover, the earlier small glove compartment which was there on the top of the main glovebox, has also been removed, but for good reason as Maruti has fitted airbag there.

Other comfort features in the car for added convenience include one-touch down front power window, electrically adjustable/foldable ORVMs and day/night IRVM. Talking about the space, there is ample headroom and legroom at the back, plenty for 6 feet tall person. The rear passenger can stretch his feet as there has space available under the front seat and this adds to the more leg space. The sense of space is further accentuated with the fact when you sit at the back and see the opposite end of the A pillar. To know more details on Maruti Suzuki Wagon R  check Rbts

But there are some downsides for the rear passengers too. The first thing is that although the back seat is roomy, it features fixed headrests which lack sufficient support for averages-sized adults. Further, the under-thigh support could have been better and a 12V socket for the back benchers would have added to the value for money quotient. Secondly, the switches for the power windows at the rear are placed slightly at the uncomfortable operating position.

Coming to the boot space, the volume of the car stands at 341L which is about the double of the earlier model. These numbers are even more than that of Vitara Brezza which has 328L of space. Further, there is rear 60:40 split which allow you to extend the volume upto 710L which is incredible to say the least. This means 2 passengers with a lot of their luggage to the airport or station can be carried with ease. Overall, new WagonR scores many brownie points in every area be it is space, utility, comfort and convenience. It is certainly several notches ahead of the earlier model.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Transmission

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR 2019 will come with one engine option. There won’t be a diesel. The car will have a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual. Weight is reduced by 65 kgs on the 1.0 liter variants, while the 1.2 liter variants are 40-50 kgs lighter than old 1.0 L WagonR variant. Compared to rival Tata Tiago, new WagonR is lighter by about 135 kgs, and about 100 kgs lighter than new Santro.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Driving

In terms of ride quality, the new WagonR has considerably improved over the last generation model. Thanks to the updated chassis which is stiffer along with softer suspension and wider tyres that makes the overall ride comfortable. And unlike the earlier model, the bumps and road undulations doesn’t bother much to this tallboy vehicle. The new 4-cylinder engine produces less vibration as compared to older model with 3-cylinder powertrain.

Coming to the steering, it is a bit heavier while driving in the cities and slightly vague as well. A bit more feel to it would have done the job. And while the wheels at the front are partly covered, the rear one does not get any cladding. Thus, debris and other imperfections that hit the wheel can be heard inside the cabin. Additional cladding would have warded off these undulations and offered a decent ride experience. However, these small things aren’t the deal breaker, especially for the WagonR lovers and the class it falls in.

As usual, the vehicle doesn’t like to be turned sharply as it would simply roll. This is due to fact that it is tall and has softer suspension. So, like other cars in its class, it wishes to be driven in a sedate manner. And honestly, if you are driving in a sedate manner in city premises, the vehicle will definitely impress you, especially if you have the powerful powertrain and comfortable ride quality. Moreover, small turning radius can make zooming past traffic easy and beneficial in tight parking spots.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Safety

All thanks to the upcoming safety norms, the new 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R gets a standard driver airbag, speed alert system, front seat belt reminders and ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD as standard across all the variants.
